A strategic plan also known as a Road Map in reality is a living document which directs the overall functioning of any Organization.    Strategic planning is important, but at the same time can be a complex issue especially for new and small organizations. Looking at the NGO sector, one may find that many NGOs do not have well drafted strategic plans and the few NGOs that have the plans are written in a very complex way – not  comprehensible  by the communities they serve. These are either too lengthy or too complicated to implement and are therefore not put into use. What better way to describe the importance of planning in our day to day lives. Putting a cap on runaway GBV: The case of Action Aid and UWONET partnership in Busiki

While I thought I knew Gender Based Violence, prior to working in Uganda I had no basic idea about the negative impact that GBV has to an individual, a family, a community and the society at large. Well, 9 months later I bare seldom condone it neither its perpetrators. I have come to know that rights abuses range from physical and psychological abuses to those of property, resource, allocations and/or ownership at household level. This practice is further exuberated on the basis of lack relevant information and awareness on GBV alleviation by communities and in particular, women and girls. While appreciating the women and girls suffer the most, men also bare the same brut effect of GBV albeit few cases are recorded. I am shocked and surprised that Busoga Sub Region in Eastern Uganda is at the apex of Gender Based Violence violations and that the violations are in one way or another, associated with HIV/AIDS infections. I (we) forgot the forgotten!

These are some hard times we living in; churches burning, planes falling from the sky, murder, diseases. Schools turned to war zones, even homes are unsafe leaving children abandoned and self-raised. Its time something is done for our young kids, they growing hopeless and that ain’t the way to live. This is just a little something to show them some happiness again, they are going blind. Seeds were planted and they hatched and now there is poverty. In Uganda’s Busoga Region - Eastern Uganda there is no poverty. This ain’t poverty. It’s much more. For the affluent, poverty is defined by amount of money one has, access to health care and maybe, proper housing. Well, today the affluent will understand poverty since it’s not understood. Something is happening Busiki. Something is happening in our world!

Something is happening. Something is happening in Busiki! It’s always good to have your closest friend say something about you. The Youth of Namutumba are the closest friends whom I have here in Uganda. I was delighted to see each and every one of them at Ivukula Sub County Dialogue and Reporting Meeting in spite of a storm warning. This revealed that they are determined to grow and go anyhow, anyway.  Something is happening with the Youth, something is happening in Busiki! I am just happy that I work with Action Aid in this region supporting the Youth since I know somehow that only when it is dark enough can you see the star and I see the star in the Youth as they rise up. Individually the Youth are poor and desperate; collectively they are richer and calculated.
