Global poverty has powerful levers. It’s a problem unlike any other.

I was born in Kenya. I have been privileged to work in rural and urban Kenya; lived and worked in rural and urban Uganda and exchanged cultural practices with the people of Zimbabwe while working with the marginalized communities in the urban and peri-urban settings of Harare. All this while, I worked with women and youth predominantly and I must say, they are the drivers of development and in that case, eradication of poverty that does not apportion a bigger chunk of the resources – human and resource capital to these two categories are fallacies. Hunger, extreme poverty and lack of alternatives are man-made problems and addressing and reversing their impact is equally the task of the same man. According to you, what is poverty?  extreme poverty? While working with ActionAid International Uganda in the Eastern side – Namutumba District,   I once stayed overnight with a family. They were wonderful people.   They invited me into their home. We sang songs together ...

I love my Lord savior Jesus Christ with all of my heart. His light shines bright when it seems like life is all in the dark. He makes me feel like it’s alright when my life is falling apart and he is always there to hear me when I call him to talk. He can turn your guilt into gracious, sinning to salvation so be patient when you are going through trials and tribulations. He is the creator of all creations, the ruler of all nations who was crucified to save us from satan and damnation. Temptation is hard to resist when hypocrites try to mislead you, but I believe in God and that he provides for his people, he is with you when you are lonely and when you hungry he is going to feed you. It’s the truth that money is the root of all of these evil, that’s why it’s hard for the rich to get into heaven because the wealth with tarnish your soul remember knowledge and understanding is better than silver and gold. Your lust for money can make you burn like you are cooking over the stove, but...

Tax Governance

TAX remission is age old, but many of us seldom interact to discuss it. Many more hardly ever The Burden of unaccounted for tax interrogate where the TAX that we pay ends up on purchase simplistic items such as a match box, a candle or a bar of soap but on the flip side, Tax Justice is a fairly new concept that is slowly taking root in Africa following cross country calls by citizens, CSOs and development partners for Governments to account for the taxes that are collected and to provide quality services on time. To guarantee ownership, commitment and sustainability, the concept of Tax Justice Campaign front loads the “common citizen” in all its engagements. In-depth understanding by practitioners and successful application by actual tax payers is strongly hinged on the three pillars of Human Rights Based Approach – empowerment, solidarity and campaigns. While there are various ways of collecting taxes, most African states generate most of their local revenue from the realms of t...

Ye know not know what ye ask!

Ger Odock According to St Mark; Chapter10 Verse 35; James and John made a specific request of the master, they had dreamed as most of the Hebrews dreamt of the coming King of Israel who would set Jerusalem free and establish his kingdom on Mount Zion and in righteousness, rule the world. They thought of Jesus as this kind of King and they were thinking of that day when Jesus would reign supreme as this new King of Israel and they were saying “ when you establish your Kingdom let one of us sit on the right and the other on the left hand of your throne. Now very quickly, we would automatically condemn James and John and we would say they were selfish, why they would make such a selfish request. But before we condemn them too quickly, let us look calmly and honestly at ourselves today and we will discover that we too have those basic desires for recognition, that same desire for attention, that same desire to be first. Of course the other disciples got mad at James and John ...

In Time

I want to walk with you, follow in your footsteps. Talk with you to find out where my good's kept. I’ve been gone away from home for so long seems like everything I try to do without you go wrong. I'm confused about a lot of things, but not with my fate so I'm depending on your holy ghost to guide me the way. You see I'm a sinner in the 3rd degree and I ain't afraid to admit it, because I’ve seen worse than me. Who am I to judge a man when I'm a man myself in the dark, trying to get me some help? I went from pawn to king, king back to pawn doing my best to try to ease out through the storm. I know that every tunnel's got an end and a light and I am prepared for a new beginning in Christ. My life is like a jigsaw dulling in time and as I'm thumbing through this jigsaw puzzle of mine, dear God please hold my hand. It seems like every other day I'm attending a wake but I don't question you, I know that's your way, OK. I know I am living...
