Never EVER question God’s plan

By
Once upon a time not too long ago, I was born amongst poverty but motivated by a dream. My ambition was strong and all the while I was following God’s path - I could never go wrong. I took a road less travelled and I got a few scraps but the journey was all worth it just to achieve that dream.  Mama told me I would make it but some fools just laughed but I remember how the bible say, ‘the first shall be last’. Even though everyone skipped over me, i ignored all the haters and perfected my craft. I hold no grudge I just forgave and forgot. If you want to see a miracle, well here I am. Word of advice; Never EVER question God’s plan. I started down at the very bottom but hard work patience and skills I’ve got them. Never let another person ruin your dreams even when you’re at your lowest it ain’t bad as it seems instead of slamming around the house crying woe is me, thank God for what you have got and go get back on your feet. Open up your eyes and take a good long look, coz...

Putting a cap on runaway GBV: The case of Action Aid and UWONET partnership in Busiki

While I thought I knew Gender Based Violence, prior to working in Uganda I had no basic idea about the negative impact that GBV has to an individual, a family, a community and the society at large. Well, 9 months later I bare seldom condone it neither its perpetrators. I have come to know that rights abuses range from physical and psychological abuses to those of property, resource, allocations and/or ownership at household level. This practice is further exuberated on the basis of lack relevant information and awareness on GBV alleviation by communities and in particular, women and girls. While appreciating the women and girls suffer the most, men also bare the same brut effect of GBV albeit few cases are recorded. I am shocked and surprised that Busoga Sub Region in Eastern Uganda is at the apex of Gender Based Violence violations and that the violations are in one way or another, associated with HIV/AIDS infections. Esther Kisembo - Legal Officer According to Esther Kisembo...

Uganda’s Unpaid Woman!

By

The thoughts of this woman have visited me many times and today I get to talk about it. I get to say it how I have seen it for the past two years. Since you never said it before, I suggest you buckle up and listen up. She is a slave, but a free slave. She is not your typical woman, not by a long shot. The things she does can seldom be quantified. She has lost the last dignity she’s been holding onto since she was young because the society expects….err…. demands so much from her, 10 times more than they demand from her companion – the man. Despite showing a happy face, catering to her husband, to her children and to the society; she cries, but her crying is never heard. Every time she comes home, Uganda’s unpaid woman is worried because she knows that she is coming home to double trouble. She is free but she is a slave. On instances; she raises her voice high enough on those dark nights albeit within the confines of her “safe and secure home”, no one comes to her rescue all the...

By Myself

By
Humans. Human beings. My fellow beings. You can call me what you want; black and ugly but you can’t convince me that the lord don’t love me. At the end of the day more often than not am contented with the work of my hands, the hands that the Lord has allowed me to use. Still, someone somewhere has a problem with that. You call me lucky, why can’t it just be that am blessed? I have a date with my future as such am a track star running through life chasing my dreams. I zone off sometimes thinking what heaven is and what is hell; if so what happens to a changed man and woman who die in their cells in Uganda’s Luzira and Kenya’s Kamiti? I need no answers to these questions because time will tell since I have a date with my destiny, she is my virtual girl-friend, and she’s more than a girl. Don’t much good come from me but my work it’s a gift given from God, so ama’ use it. I put a message in my handy work and verbs hope it brightens your day, if times are hard when you read it, s...
